Raise the Roof

I like to think I'm brave in general, but I have a few fears, included: spiders, driving  up large hills, teenagers, and heights.  This last one made me particularly grateful to Dan and Jill and kids when they came over a couple of days before the Butte Kicker to help put the roof on our house.  The pitch of our roof is steep and the back drop over the walkout basement is a big deal.  Brandan, Dan, Jill and Boe spent hours tiptoeing around the roof and what was their reward?  Burnt feet covered in huge blisters.  Just in time to run the 75 mile relay.
Dan, Boe, Jill and Brandan on the backside (the particularly scary side) of the roof.  See the stormy sky.  Yep, add a little rainwater and the roof becomes a slippery slide to your death.

While the big people worked on the roof, the little cousins took on a project of their own.  The kids spent hours screwing together scrap boards to make a club house complete with table and bench.  This picture shows them halfway through their project.  In the end, the house had a roof and a door.
Because of the Claysons' hard work. I spent less then 3 hours total on top of the roof pretending to help Brandan while trying not to throw up.  Thank you all!!
